“I was just devastated by the news, and I could only imagine how they felt up in Newtown,”
said Jason Crane, Loyola lacrosse player.
In January 2013, then-freshman Jason Crane led a group of 14 Mens' Lacrosse Greyhounds to Newtown, CT where they offered a LAX clinic to youth players. Just weeks before, lives had been changed by the events at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The Newtown Lacrosse families traveled to Baltimore in April 2013 for a weekend of VIP treatment and toured the RAC and Locker Room and bonded with the players. In 2014, Crane and his teammates returned to Newtown and lead another youth clinic. Since then, the Newtown kids and families have formed a tight bond with the Loyola lacrosse program. This tradition has continued, each year in January, players travel to Newtown to conduct a lacrosse clinic for youth players. The youth players and their families attend a game each Spring.
Crane was named the winner of the 2013 Yeardley Love Unsung Hero Award!
